TENDER DESCRIPTION

The current planning area lies in this field of tension between a historically reconstructed square layout and additions shaped by function. The conversion of the Semperoper and its surroundings is therefore set in the context of a sensitive further development of a high-ranking cultural site, in which both monument conservation requirements and operational requirements must be taken into account. The project includes the planning, construction and subsequent change of use of a new building which initially serves as an interim facility for functions relocated from the Semperoper and will then be operated permanently as the Semperoper Ballet Centre. The background is the necessary general refurbishment of the listed functional building of the Semperoper, whose structural condition requires comprehensive refurbishment. During this roughly two-year refurbishment phase, usable areas must be relocated; for this purpose, the new building is intended as an interim site.
