TENDER DESCRIPTION

The current planning area lies in this zone of tension between a historically reconstructed layout of the square and additions shaped by functional requirements. The conversion of the Semperoper and its surroundings is therefore set in the context of a sensitive further development of a high-profile cultural site, in which both heritage-conservation requirements and operational requirements must be taken into account. The project includes the planning, construction of a new building, and the subsequent reuse of the new building. Initially, it will serve as an interim location for functions relocated from the Semperoper and will then be operated permanently as the Semperoper Ballet Centre. The background is the necessary comprehensive refurbishment (general renovation) of the listed functional building of the Semperoper, the condition of which requires extensive refurbishment. During this approx. two-year refurbishment phase, usable areas must be relocated; for this purpose, the new building is planned as an interim site.
