TENDER DESCRIPTION

General: At the top edge of the Ilm embankment to the east of the Stadtschloss there is a wrought-iron handrail that has been located there since the end of the 19th century. It consists of rectangular posts, top and bottom rails, as well as curved and circular infills. The posts are fastened to travertine pedestal/foundation blocks. The handrail is to be dismantled on site, refurbished in the Contractor’s workshop, and installed again at the top edge of the embankment. Several sections of handrail are missing and must be replaced. The travertine pedestal/foundation blocks are to be preserved wherever possible. Pedestals/foundations that cannot be preserved are to be newly manufactured. The travertine pedestal, including the recess, is manufactured separately by a stone mason and is provided to this scope of work by the Client on site. The concrete foundation underneath is to be constructed as part of this scope of work. Experience in the restoration and repair of historical metalwork and blacksmithing work is required.
