As part of the general renovations, the carriageway width is adapted to 12.5 m to enable a 4+0 traffic management during construction measures. However, no capacity-increasing measures will be implemented. At the Linz junction, existing overload phenomena that cause significant traffic back-ups onto the regionally important A 1 West Motorway are already being observed. To increase capacity and optimize traffic flow, especially during peak hours, and thus ensure an adequate traffic quality, the implementation of a hard shoulder release (PSFG) in the section from Linz junction to Bindermichl Tunnel after the general renovations is planned. The hard shoulder release includes, in addition to structural adaptation of the carriageway including required bridge widening, in particular an expansion of the electromechanical equipment as well as the installation of a modern traffic control system.
