The 21 Veterinary and food monitoring offices of the 22 rural districts and independent cities in the Free State of Thuringia are responsible, among other things, for receiving and testing samples of slaughtered or game animals intended for human consumption for Trichinella spp. In addition, responsibilities exist with regard to granting authorisation for external persons to take samples intended for trichinella testing.
