TENDER DESCRIPTION
During the structural inspection of the lock system in 2024, among other things, numerous defects and concrete spalls were found at the separating piers of the upper and lower approach channel, which fall under damage class 3. In some cases, the damaged areas show sharp-edged spalls, resulting in an immediate risk to navigation and vessels. In addition, due to the continuing deterioration, further loss of material and an enlargement of the damaged areas are to be expected. The damage identified is essentially due to the advanced age of the structures and long-term exposure to freeze-thaw cycles and varying water levels. In large parts, the existing concrete substance no longer meets today’s requirements for durability and resistance to the stresses present.
