For Broadband Ostalb KAöR as well as the towns and municipalities of the Ostalb district, providing citizens and businesses with high-performance and future-proof broadband services is an important task within the meaning of services of general interest, economic development and safeguarding the location. With the requirement for high data rates and long transmission distances between networks, the expansion of fibre-optic technology plays a decisive role in particular. For this reason, Broadband Ostalb KAöR as well as the towns and municipalities of the Ostalb district have, in recent years, established a fibre-optic infrastructure to ensure a high-performance and future-proof supply in parts of the district. For this purpose, based on connection points to existing fibre-optic infrastructures, Broadband Ostalb KAöR has produced the lead-in infrastructures into the service area (backbone network) and, by the towns and municipalities, produced in-town distribution networks in inadequately served areas of the district on the basis of FTTC technology (as an intermediate step) and FTTB technology.
