TENDER DESCRIPTION

The City of Herne is a large city in the Ruhr region in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The area of the decommissioned power plant Shamrock and the planning area "Blumenthal hoch3" are located in the north-eastern part of the Herne city district of Eickel and are embedded in the Social City area of Wanne-South. The history of the development of the power plant is closely interwoven, spatially and in terms of technical and functional aspects, with the colliery Shamrock and with the adjacent colliery site Blumenthal. Shaft 3, which is located on the Blumenthal hoch3 site, was sunk in 1890; shaft 4 in 1891 and shaft 11 in 1957. In 1967, the colliery Shamrock was merged with the colliery General Blumenthal in Recklinghausen. On the site of the power plant, there had previously been a coking plant with by-product recovery facilities. These were shut down in 1941 and dismantled in 1942. In 1954, the power plant Shamrock was rebuilt; it had been heavily damaged during the war and before its completion.
