TENDER DESCRIPTION

The Institute of Construction Methods and Structural Technology of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart is concerned with lightweight construction methods for aerospace and, for more than 30 years, with the topics of crash safety (crashworthiness) and high-velocity impact (High Velocity Impact). Building on internationally recognized scientific expertise in the aforementioned research areas, the institute is establishing a test center unique in Europe for safety-relevant research on aerospace structures—the so-called DLR-Center for Crash and Impact Test (CITE)—and will subsequently operate it. On 1 February 2023, the award notification for more than EUR 20.6 million was handed over from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg to the DLR. A further four million euros come from the DLR’s own funds (EUR 25 million: DLR builds test center for aerospace structures). With its European unique selling point, CITE will become a central point of contact for European aircraft manufacturers and the approval authority EASA.
