    TENDER DESCRIPTION

    The Institute for Construction Methods and Structural Technology of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart is concerned with lightweight construction methods for aerospace and for more than 30 years has dealt with the topics of crash safety (crashworthiness) and high-velocity impact. Building on internationally recognized scientific expertise in the above-mentioned research areas, the institute will establish a test centre that is unique across Europe for safety-relevant research on aerospace structures, the so-called DLR Center for Crash and Impact Test (CITE), and will subsequently operate it. On 1 February 2023, the transfer of the grant approval notice for EUR 20.6 million was made from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg to DLR. A further four million euros come from DLR’s own funds (EUR 25 million: DLR builds test centre for aerospace structures). With its unique selling point in Europe, CITE will become a central point of contact for European aircraft manufacturers and the certification authority EASA.
