TENDER DESCRIPTION

The archaeological intervention is located in the commune of Les Abymes, at the locality Belle Plaine in Perrin, southwest of Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe. The topography of the area corresponds to a vast plain at 10-20 meters elevation, punctuated by some small isolated hills. The Abymes plain is agriculturally oriented, predominantly sugarcane. The project to construct 225 housing units by SEMSAMAR led to the undertaking of a survey. Pre-Columbian occupations are known in the area, including a Neo-Indian site located close to the current development project and which was the subject of a preventive archaeological excavation in 2013 (patriarch site no. 97 105 0105). Regarding the colonial period, the establishment of the first dwellings dates back to the first quarter of the 18th century: the land survey plan drawn up by Amaudric de Sainte Maure in 1732 shows that, except for the Grands-Fonds sector, the majority of the lands were already granted to private individuals for the establishment of agro-manufacturing estates (ref.: ANOM, DFC Guadeloupe, c. 26, f°69).
