TENDER DESCRIPTION

The archaeological intervention is located in the municipality of Les Abymes at the locality Belle Plaine in Perrin, to the southwest of Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe. The topography of the area corresponds to a vast plain at 10-20 meters altitude dotted with a few small isolated hills. The Abymes plain is agriculturally oriented, mainly sugarcane cultivation. The construction project of 225 housing units by SEMSAMAR led to the carrying out of a diagnostic survey. Pre-Columbian occupations are known in the area, including a Neo-Indian site located near the current development project which underwent a preventive archaeological excavation in 2013 (patriarch site no. 97 105 0105). Regarding the colonial period, the establishment of the first dwellings dates back to the first quarter of the 18th century: the cadastral survey plan drawn up by Amaudric de Sainte Maure in 1732 shows that, except for the Grands-Fonds sector, most of the land was already granted to private individuals for the establishment of agro-manufacturing operations (ref.: ANOM, DFC Guadeloupe, c. 26, f°69).
