TENDER DESCRIPTION
The aim of the research project is to close knowledge gaps regarding traffic safety, cycling behavior and the space requirements of cycle traffic on downhill and uphill stretches. The statements of the current body of rules are not suitable for providing planners with sufficient guidance for the traffic-safe and attractive design of the routing of cycle traffic. The current starting situation is characterized by the fact that downhill stretches pose an increased accident risk for cycle traffic (UDV No. 96/98). This applies to all roads with and without separate cycle traffic facilities. The risk, however, varies depending on the location. Thus, for approximately 17% of single-vehicle accidents involving cyclists with personal injury, the accident location characteristic is stated as “downhill”; when considering rural roads, this figure is approximately 39% (UDV No. 98). For this reason, the body of rules of the FGSV and internationally recommends wider paths for cycle traffic on downhill stretches. However, no specific recommendations are provided. It is plausible that various aspects are closely related to the speeds of cycle traffic. At the same time, little is known about…
