FE 02.502/2026/IRB - "Traffic-related ammonia immissions on Federal trunk roads" The main source of ammonia is agriculture. However, ammonia can also be released in road traffic—particularly as part of exhaust after-treatment. With the EU air quality directive 2024/2881, ammonia is classified for the first time as an air pollutant of concern and is included in the monitoring obligations of supersites. To date, there are insufficient measurement data—especially in the area of federal motorways. The aim of this study is therefore to systematically record and assess traffic-related ammonia concentrations on federal motorways in order to create a robust database for the immission-related classification of road traffic as an emission source. In addition to systematically reviewing the scientific state of affairs regarding ammonia immissions in the near-road environment, passive sampler measurements are to be carried out according to VDI 3869 Part 4 at two sites (BASt measurement cross-section A 555 at Wesseling + another highly frequented federal motorway site) over a period of one year.
