TENDER DESCRIPTION

To improve road safety, for the first time a nationwide uniform analysis of wildlife-vehicle collisions was carried out for the period 2012 to 2017. Using geostatistical methods and geocoded accident locations, wildlife-vehicle collision concentration points in Germany could be identified and visualised. The research project builds on these findings and pursues the goal of developing a standardised procedure that can be applied regularly across federal states for the identification and assessment of sections with wildlife-vehicle collisions. The basis is the data from the Electronic Accident Type Index Card (EUSKa). Using a transparent and significance-based methodology, wildlife-vehicle collision densities, concentration points, and contiguous sections with wildlife-vehicle collisions are to be reliably determined and prioritised. In addition, a basis for calculating the socio-economic costs of wildlife-vehicle collisions is to be created. For this purpose, an accident cost rate “Wildlife-vehicle collision” is developed, which combines the number of accidents and accident severity into a single indicator value.
