TENDER DESCRIPTION

The evaluation of the most recent measurement series of the condition recording and assessment (ZEB) in the network of federal trunk roads proves in several German states a significant increase in cracking in asphalt wearing courses. The share of road sections in which the condition value for cracking exceeds the warning value has, between two consecutive measurement cycles, in some cases increased by up to 10%. As part of a repeated exchange between the federal government and the states and on the basis of multiple tests and evaluations, it was found that these damage patterns are also observed in newly constructed and/or fully rehabilitated road sections with comparatively short service life. The causal relationships of the observed cracking are currently not conclusively clarified. However, existing analyses indicate construction-technical causes. The subject of the research project is the scientific investigation of the essential causes of premature cracking in asphalt wearing courses of newly constructed asphalt pavements.
