TENDER DESCRIPTION

Rock and slope stabilization in Mauel Line 2651, km 59.345 Deutsche Bahn plans to secure a rockfall-prone rock and slope embankment along DB Line 2651 (Köln-Deutz – Berzdorf) in the section between rail km 59.344 and km 59.387, south of the Mauel Tunnel. This is a single-track, electrified main line with passenger and freight traffic, running in the section Windeck-Nord – Windeck-Süd. In the course of special assessments following several rockfall events, it was determined that the affected rock section shows significant instability due to the weathering of the existing sandstone as well as unfavorably oriented and partly widely opened fracture sets. These geological structures favor both sliding and tipping movements of individual rock bodies. Additionally, freeze-thaw cycles as well as root pressure from vegetation act destabilizingly and promote the progressive disintegration of the rock. At several points, fresh detachment traces and recent rockfall events have been documented, repeatedly impairing the operational safety of the line.
