REFOPLAN 2026: “Analysis of the potential of mine water, mining water and dewatering/ponded water in Germany” Resource recovery takes place through mining across Germany—in different types, depending on different resources, in varying quantities, depending on the occurrence of the raw materials. Among other things, the extraction of raw materials affects the water management regime. Intersected aquifers require that water be handled during the active phase of mining and after operations are shut down. The project examines what potential for use mine water, dewatering/ponded water and mining water contain and how these potential uses can be utilized to protect people and the environment. The expert report to be prepared is intended to help identify unused potential, submit proposals for use, and suggest instruments to ensure that this use is also successful economically. To this end, the expert report brings together data and facts, including on the composition of mining water (as the result of data research, no own analytical work) and assesses the potential of mining water for the recovery of raw materials and for energy use.
