EVUPlan: "Compact analysis of the effects on the district heating supply caused by the use of WACCS" In the Carbon Management Strategy of the German Federal Government, emissions from thermal waste treatment plants (TAB) are defined as "unavoidable emissions" and thus politically designated as an application case for CCUS (WACCS). The Federal Climate Protection Program provides a concrete pathway for this. To enable this technically, energy or heat is required on-site for the capture of CO2 at the place of greenhouse gas emissions. This heat is basically available on-site but is usually already used for other heat applications. In particular, it serves as a heat source for district heating supply in metropolitan areas. In the case of CO2 capture, a competitive situation arises regarding this energy. The tendered research project addresses this and focuses on the effects primarily on district heating supply due to the loss (in part) of heat extraction from TAB by the use of carbon capture.
