TENDER DESCRIPTION

The research project aims to acquire sound knowledge about factors influencing subjective security at small train stations. For this purpose, objective and subjective data as well as investigations under real and experimental conditions are conducted. From combined analyses, evidence-based prioritizations of measures with the greatest possible impact on people's feeling of security emerge. The project thus develops an evidence-based model to explain subjective security at small train stations. Until now, little data has been available for such small stations. At the same time, increasing avoidance tendencies are observed there. The engagement with subjective security is relevant because (1) the risk of becoming a crime victim at train stations is low, but the feeling of security is nevertheless poor, and (2) measures aimed at higher objective security can differ substantially from those improving subjective security – these are two largely independent and distinct aspects. For example, increased surveillance and police presence can reduce crimes and thus increase objective security, but at the same time also amplify the feeling of insecurity because they signal danger.
