TENDER DESCRIPTION

The contracting authority, Nerra GmbH, is developing the Technology Quarter Wedau (TQW), covering around 26 ha, on the site of the former Deutsche Bahn (DB) repair works in Duisburg-Wedau Nord. A forward-looking business, technology and innovation location is to be created on the site. Deutsche Bahn operated the repair works together with the Duisburg-Wedau marshalling yard from 1914 to 2004. Since rail operations were discontinued, substantial parts of the site have remained unused. On the property there is still the so-called Richthalle with a floor area of around 38,500 m² (3.85 ha). The contracting authority is currently pursuing the demolition of the hall complex. It is also continuing to examine the possibility of partial retention of individual hall segments. Prerequisites for the development of the site are the demolition of the Richthalle, clearance of the areas and orderly soil management, including remediation of contaminated sites and pollutants.
