TENDER DESCRIPTION

Up to the flooding in 2021, the City Archive of Bad Münstereifel was located in the basement of the town hall, Marktstraße 11, and suffered severe damage in the flood disaster. The archival holdings had to be recovered and frozen. The Archives Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (ArchivG NRW) sets out clear obligations for the preservation of archival material by municipal archives. Pursuant to § 5(2) sentence 1 of the ArchivG NRW, there is an obligation to securely preserve archival material on a permanent basis, which means that records once accepted must be preserved long-term. This is not possible without technical means for an estimated 9,500 archival boxes. The measure described in this document involves setting up a temporary storage facility in the Arloffer Thonworks in order to conservatorily store and catalogue the damaged and partially reprocessed archival holdings appropriately, until a permanent archive building is available. The interim measure M3-1 is part of the overall project to restore the City Archive of Bad Münstereifel following the flooding damage in July 2021.
