TENDER DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this contract is to carry out an intervention study on the effectiveness of existing preventive measures to reduce exposure to PFAS and heavy metals (minimum lead and cadmium) via indoor dust in approximately 100 Flemish households with young children (0-6 years). The focus is on the measure “wet cleaning”, but any additional measures or combinations of measures may also be investigated. The study must provide insight into: • the effectiveness of preventive measures for reducing concentrations of PFAS and heavy metals in indoor dust; • the circumstances under which these measures are most effective; • the influence of the frequency, quality and consistency of applying the measures; • the possibilities for refining existing health-related advice for citizens. In addition, the assignment aims to strengthen the knowledge base regarding indoor dust by: • the development of reference values for concentrations of PFAS and heavy metals in indoor dust; • the further substantiation of a uniform and reproducible sampling methodology (deposited dust) for indoor dust in comparison with outdoor dust.
