TENDER DESCRIPTION

The Quitzdorf reservoir is located in the district of Görlitz in the Free State of Saxony, in Upper Lusatia, near the town of Niesky. It is situated in the municipality of Quitzdorf am See, which consists of the former towns of Kollm and Sproitz. The project is located in the landscape protection area “Quitzdorf Reservoir and Kollmer Heights”, which is part of the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape — one of the largest contiguous pond areas in Central Europe. The Quitzdorf reservoir was built between 1965 and 1972 and dams the Schwarzer Schöps river. The dam is a straight earthfill dam made of gravel and sand with a clay-concrete core sealing. The crest length is approx. 1,400 m, and the height above the valley floor is about 10.5 m. The total storage capacity is around 25.17 million m³; the catchment area comprises approx. 174.5 km². Today, the reservoir serves multiple purposes: flood protection, raising low water levels, providing water for the Lusatian region, providing water for general use, local recreation, and nature conservation.
