TENDER DESCRIPTION

The City of Kuopio is initiating the preparation of a general plan covering the entire Kuopio area. The general plan is prepared in two scales: the entire municipality with strategic planning markings, and the central urban area with general-scale land use designation markings. The mapping of archaeological potential will serve as background material for Kuopio General Plan 2050 and will help the contracting authority identify which areas it is advisable to commission archaeological surveys for in more detailed planning or in any separate follow-up studies under Kuopio General Plan 2050. The task is to prepare an archaeological preliminary assessment for the land areas of the entire City of Kuopio (land area approximately 3,242 km2), but not for water areas. The work will review existing material in a versatile manner and form an understanding of the areas that have the greatest archaeological potential and therefore the need for more detailed archaeological surveys in connection with more detailed sub-regional general plan (osayleiskaava) work or in other more detailed planning.
