Cross-border project for sustainable improvement of the ecological and hydrological status of the Rögnitz - Lot 2 Feasibility study The Rögnitz is located in the east of the state of Lower Saxony and in the west of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Over a length of around 15 km, the Rögnitz forms the state border between the states of Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern between Gudow and Woosmer. The border runs in the middle of the watercourse. The Rögnitz is a tributary of the Sude and belongs to the catchment area of the Elbe. In both Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Rögnitz is a watercourse that is required to be reported under the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). Its water body ROEG-0300 comprises a stretch of flowing water of 54 km. The water body is characterised as a lowland river shaped by sand and clay (LAWA type 15) and is classified as “natural”. Accordingly, the good ecological and chemical status must be achieved. In addition, the Rögnitz is designated as a spawning and nursery water as well as a migratory fish showcase.
