The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) is a non-profit research institution and a member of the Leibniz Association. As an internationally renowned research center, the IPK works on elucidating fundamental principles of evolution, development, and adaptability of important crop plants. The IPK is among the internationally leading research institutions in the field of plant genetics and crop plant research. The measure strengthens the international competitiveness of the science location Saxony-Anhalt as well as the strategically important plant science research infrastructure of Germany. The measure serves to secure: - the federal ex-situ gene bank, - modern research capacities, - research capability in the areas of climate change and food security. The existing research infrastructure of the IPK shows significant energetic, technical, and structural deficits. The existing greenhouse facilities in the genetics greenhouse complex are technologically and structurally worn out.
