The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) is a non-profit research institution and a member of the Leibniz Association. As an internationally renowned research center, the IPK works on elucidating fundamental principles of the evolution, development, and adaptability of important crop plants. The IPK is one of the internationally leading research institutions in the field of plant genetics and crop plant research. The measure strengthens the international competitiveness of the science location Saxony-Anhalt as well as the strategically important plant science research infrastructure of Germany. The measure serves to secure: - the federal ex-situ genebank, - modern research capacities, - research capability in the area of climate change and food security. The existing research infrastructure of the IPK shows considerable energetic, technical, and structural deficiencies. The existing greenhouse facilities in the Genetics greenhouse complex are technologically and structurally worn out.
