In the Virtual Engineering Laboratory, modern planning and software tools are used for factory planning, material flow simulation, value stream analysis, ergonomics planning and VR presentations. In the future, the real-time capability of the systems as well as the consistent use of digital twins are to be put even more strongly into focus—especially in teaching and in third-party-funded and research projects. A central aspect is ensuring data integrity: models, simulation data and visualizations are to be used directly in the respective engineering workflow without conversion or loss-making transformations. This creates consistent, real-time-capable couplings between planning, simulation and VR presentation, which are both scientifically robust and suitable for industrial integration. For the VR environment, a system with three professional GPUs of the same performance class is intended. This architecture enables the simultaneous, real-time-capable calculation of all three projection surfaces of the CAVE.
