At the Finger Institute for Materials Science in Construction at Bauhaus University Weimar, novel binders and construction materials as well as mechanisms of ageing and corrosion are researched. The scope of basic and applied research ranges from inorganic systems such as cement and concrete to novel plastics and additives based on renewable raw materials. Determining the interaction of organic additives with mineral construction materials and their individual mineral components is a fundamental tool in materials research and construction chemistry. In order to expand the institute’s range of services and improve the quality of teaching and to increase the scientific standard, Bauhaus University Weimar plans to purchase a total organic carbon analyser for the determination of total organic carbon, specifically for the investigation of particle–polymer interactions between mineral construction materials and organic additives.
