TENDER DESCRIPTION

Against the background of a predicted decline in water supply due to climate change and the phase-out of lignite, it is advisable to exhaust all possibilities for optimal use of the available water supply in Lusatia. The numerous ponds and pond groups used by inland fisheries (pond farms) in the catchment area of the Spree and the Schwarze Elster, with approximately 70 million m³ of water volume, constitute a significant water user. As part of their management, these ponds are regularly filled in spring and emptied in autumn. The additional water demand caused by evaporation and infiltration as well as the fishery-required throughflow volume during the management period are covered by the flowing wave of the receiving waters. Thus, the pond farms are an integral part of the water management of the Spree and Schwarze Elster rivers. Moreover, the pond farms represent a significant economic factor in the region and have a very high cultural-historical significance due to their 750-year tradition.
