TENDER DESCRIPTION
The new building is being constructed on the campus of Saarland University in Saarbrücken and will be used by the Helmholtz Institute. It is an extension building for the first construction phase of the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) and complements it both functionally and architecturally. The extension building is planned east of the existing building and is connected to the existing building by two bridges, each linking the office and laboratory corridors with those of the new building. The extension is complemented by terraced parking areas integrated into the terrain located to the east. The longitudinal axes of the building are oriented according to the existing building’s location. The laboratory grid was chosen slightly wider than in the existing building to ultimately allow more flexible equipment placement. This creates a uniform grid for offices and laboratories based on a 1.2 m basic dimension, which contributes to simplifying the construction.
