TENDER DESCRIPTION
The primary objective of the project RIFOBA is to examine whether and in what form a scientifically robust assessment concept for ecological risk, derived from the expression of functional traits (FT) of non-native tree species that are potentially relevant to forestry in Germany, can be developed. Ecological risk denotes the likelihood and the potential extent of negative impacts of a non-native species on biodiversity, species composition, or central ecosystem processes in a given reference area as a result of its establishment and spread. The assessment covers non-native tree species for which a nature conservation-based assessment of invasiveness according to Nehring et al. 2025, or Nehring and Rabitsch (2025), is not available, but which are already being cultivated in Germany or whose future relevance in forestry practice has already been discussed, and whose cultivation is therefore being tested. RIFOBA is therefore explicitly set up with an open outcome. The project is intended to investigate - whether FT are suitable for validly mapping the ecological risk of non-native tree species, - whether sufficient empirical foundations exist for this, - and whether robust,…
