These pipes consist of a steel tube called the steel sheet core, factory-coated with a layer of reinforced concrete on the outer surface (extrados), and a thin layer of unreinforced concrete on the inner surface (intrados). The tubes were joined on site by welding. They were laid in an open trench in a highly constrained site.
