TENDER DESCRIPTION

Despite increased awareness of the consequences of plastic pollution for the marine environment, there remains a persistent threat from ALDFG, which is newly introduced into the marine environment or has been present there for decades in some cases. Therefore, the aim of UNSEA is to systematically prevent the further entry of ALDFG into the North and Baltic Seas, reduce the negative ecological and socio-economic impacts, and identify and recover legacy pollutants especially in ecologically sensitive areas. Both commercial, supplementary, and recreational fisheries in the North and Baltic Seas are to be addressed. Aquaculture, mariculture, and inland fisheries are excluded from the project scope. Existing provisions and agreements of relevant national and international legal regulations are currently still fragmented, lack financial backing, and are partly subject to reconsideration for various reasons. UNSEA is therefore intended to bring together the various aspects in a coherent framework for action, focusing on the implementation of cost-effective and operational measures.
