TENDER DESCRIPTION

Despite a growing awareness of the consequences of plastic pollution for the marine environment, there remains an ongoing threat from ALDFG, which is newly introduced into the marine environment or has partly existed there for decades. The goal of UNSEA is therefore to systematically prevent further introduction of ALDFG into the North and Baltic Seas, reduce the negative ecological and socio-economic impacts, and identify and recover legacy burdens, especially in ecologically sensitive areas. Both commercial, part-time, and recreational fisheries in the North and Baltic Seas are to be addressed. Aqua- and mariculture as well as inland fisheries are excluded from the project scope. Existing regulations and agreements of relevant national and international legal frameworks are currently still fragmented, lack financial support, and are partly under threat for various reasons. UNSEA is thus intended to bring together the various aspects within a coherent framework of action, focusing on the implementation of cost-efficient and operational measures.
