TENDER DESCRIPTION

In order to improve the identified incomplete data situation regarding the occurrence and behavior of birds in the track environment, this project aims to record video material at existing and one newly installed camera locations and analyze it using the method developed in the previous project. Additionally, video material independently recorded from the driver’s cab of rail vehicles is to be analyzed using the same method. Through automated recording and analysis, representative information about the occurrence and behavior of birds in the track environment shall be obtained. This will in turn allow for the assessment of the risk to birds from collision during flight as well as the risk to birds due to locations near mast isolators and on cantilevers of overhead line masts. By evaluating video recordings, manpower-intensive bird observations can be dispensed with and a longer study period can be covered. The project results are intended to support a reliable information base regarding the impact of rail traffic and rail infrastructure on birds.
