DEGES Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau GmbH is planning on behalf of the Free State of Thuringia represented by the Ministry for Digital Affairs and Infrastructure the reconstruction and expansion of federal highway B 4 north of the Sondershausen bypass up to Sundhäuser Berg [VKE 5921]. The B 4 connects the districts of Nordhausen and Kyffhäuserkreis via the Sundhäuser Berge. The examined section of the B 4 is located about 5 km south of the city of Nordhausen and connects the Kyffhäuserkreis (Sondershausen) with the motorway A 38 Halle-Göttingen. The current planning section begins at construction km 3+900, between the districts of Kyffhäuserkreis and Nordhausen, and ends at the Nordhausen motorway interchange of the A 38 at construction km 8+075. The length of the expansion section is approximately 4.175 km. The expansion of the B 4 in the above-mentioned section is expected to result in a significant improvement in traffic safety and traffic flow. Construction rights exist based on a planning approval with reference number 540.8-4348-07/18 dated 04.01.2022.
