TENDER DESCRIPTION

The subject of the competition is an urban-planning and open-space planning design demonstrating how the transformation of an existing site characterized by commercial use into a mixed-use, climate-adapted, and public-spirited quarter can be achieved. In a city with high demand for land and limited reserves for inner-city development, requirements here meet directly, which in other places often go their separate ways spatially: housing and commercial use, logistics and staying, social infrastructure and production, open space and densification. The decisive question is therefore not which use ultimately prevails. What is more interesting is how, out of this competition, a piece of city can emerge. The task of the competition is to develop one’s own spatial response. In particular, what is sought is not the most complete picture of Gutleut-West at some point being “finished.” Rather, what is sought is an urban-planning and open-space planning framework that provides orientation without limiting development. Through principles to be developed, it should safeguard qualities and at the same time open up scope—for different uses, project sponsors, owners, and development timeframes.…
